The Right Look: Donnie Yen

If you don’t know the guy in the picture above, it’s Donnie Yen , one of the most respected Chinese action film actors, responsible for some of the best martial arts scenes. In addition to all this skill in the films of beating, the actor also shows good taste when dressing and although this look is highly likely to be part of a production for a magazine, it has a lot to do with the style already demonstrated by him in his public appearances.

Why does it work?

The beard is in the combination of shades of blue, it does not have to be a genius to know that the result will work, but there are some peculiarities, such as the blazer in a slightly lighter shade than the blue pants and the discreet check. The blue suede loafer shoe gives it a casual and somewhat unexpected touch, as the other more visible pieces are tailoring, where a patent shoe would appear as a more obvious alternative.

The big highlight here is the turtleneck blouse (or rulê) in a bold and showy orange tone, where a light blue shirt or even a neutral t-shirt would be an easy choice, but not so interesting. The warm color contrasts wonderfully with the navy, but does not tend to exaggeration, as only part of the piece is visible, with the blazer superimposed giving balance to the look.

In the composition, even the watch chosen is in a blue tone that harmonizes with the rest, giving a light sporty / casual touch.

Even sitting, you can see the good fit of the pieces, especially the blazer, which looks very well adjusted.

Try it…

a V-neck T-shirt for slightly warmer days and a brogue blue suede boot for winter days.

It wouldn’t be the same if…

we changed the blouse for a shirt in a neutral tone or even if the blazer was smooth, these elements bring a lot of dynamics and style to the look.

Summing up:

  • Tone on blue always works well for men, as well as being an easy match;
  • You can break the tone on tone with a strong color in detail;
  • Suede loafer brings a casual look, but not so much, it is still more sophisticated than sneakers;
  • Daring in colors and avoiding the obvious is a mark of men who dominate their style;
  • In summer use a V-neck t-shirt and in winter wear a boot to protect your shins;
  • The blazer and the orange blouse are the highlights of this combo.
